Neurological Rehabilitation- Goal Setting

Overview

Sheeba graduated with MSc  in Physiotherapy from  India in 2001. In 2004, she developed a keen research interest in stroke rehabilitation while working on a randomised controlled trial (RCT) using Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) for patients with acute stroke at Keele University, UK. She furthered her academic pursuits by completing a PhD in Health Services Research at the University of Birmingham in 2016, where she explored patient-centredness within goal setting in stroke rehabilitation. Her PhD work led to the development of a patient-centred goal-setting process, which has been locally investigated for feasibility. She has published several articles, including a highly cited review and a book chapter on patient-centred goal setting in stroke rehabilitation. Her research interests include stroke rehabilitation, goal setting in rehabilitation, patient-centred care practice, curriculum development, mobility following stroke in the community, improving balance in the community using volunteers, and goal setting in palliative care. Patient-centredness remains the guiding ideology of her work, as evidenced by her investigation into shared decision-making with frail elderly patients during goal setting.
